Do you own a laptop? Have you seen a laptop? Well, if you are reading this article right now, you most probably have seen a laptop. And you may even be reading this article right now using a laptop. Laptops are now quite common in the market right now and a lot of people are using this piece of technology because they can be brought anywhere and can allow a person to access the internet easily. This is the advantage that comes with using a laptop.

There are different types of laptops that are available in the market. Because of the advancement in technology which allows companies to create laptops easily and product them in higher amounts for a lower amount, the number of laptops in the market have gone up. Plus, the prices of such piece of technology has also gone down and have become more affordable for those who would love to own one. This is the reason why almost all who are into own a laptop.

ASUS is one of the companies which create the best laptops in the whole industry. This is also the company which is responsible for creating really affordable laptops and which are small and very mobile. In fact, this is the company which has created the first notebook that is not only light and small but is also very affordable compared to other units.

Now this company has also created various types of laptops. One of them comes with a wonderful design which is not so common in most laptops. See, the other units come in white, black, or silver. These are the common colors that this piece of technology has. However, this one from ASUS comes using a bamboo design. They do use real bamboo and this unit is part of the Bamboo series from the company.eco friendly laptop, eco-friendly laptop

During this time, environmentalists are calling for pieces of technology that will help the environment be greener. With that, the company is saying that they are helping this cause by using the bamboo. So you may think that this is something wrong because they are using such a material. However, the bamboo is a woody plant that grows the fastest. And with that, ASUS is saying that they are helping the world save around 36 million number of trees each year. Think of them as spa candles or maybe beeswax candles that use natural products and help the world remain green. Thanks ASUS.

EcoBook claimed to be the answer to growing concern about the use of plastics.

It’s not often that are sold on their "spiritual warmth" and "refreshing fragrance" but the star of the world’s biggest IT fair was something

different. Instead of shiny plastic it was encased in laminated bamboo strips. The result, said its Taiwanese makers, Asus, was "both aesthetically pleasing and good for the environment".

"Bamboo is the most sustainable raw material there is," said Jellent Sun, a senior director.

"It grows very fast and therefore we decided to combine bamboo with metal, and leave out the plastic." The resulting laptop is due to go into production in June 2008.

The computer fair, CeBIT, which opened in Hanover yesterday, took on the green theme for the first time in its 36-year history. It was met with a mixture of praise and skepticism.

One company presented a notebook that claims it can "bring you to a healthier life", by "detoxifying, sterilizing and exterminating the silent assassin viruses" in your working environment, thanks to its built-in ioniser.

"Admittedly the Anion computer is not going to save the planet," said Craig Martus of MSI, "but it will sweeten the air you breathe so that rather than being stuck in an office, you’ll feel like you’re in the mountains."

Until now it has been aeroplanes and cars which have taken the brunt of the criticism when it comes to environmental pollution. But now the IT industry is admitting that it has to cut users’ energy costs - rising electricity bills are as much of an incentive as the environment - as well as improve its recycling capabilities.

"Green IT is hype," admitted Thomas Tauer of IBM Germany, "but it is an issue that will keep us busy for a long time".

The industry has coined such phrases as "ecolutions" - short for the rather long-winded eco-friendly and environmental evolution and solutions - "cooler
and cleaner," and "hi-tech, low carbon" in its attempt to plug the message that emissions can be reduced without computer users having to sacrifice functionality or style.

"Worldwide internet usage alone needs the equivalent of 14 power stations to run the required and servers, which means it’s producing the same amount of carbon emissions as the entire airline industry," said Omur Canaltay, a marketing manager with Fujitsu Siemens.

He was presenting the world’s first O-Watt monitor, which uses no electricity when in standby mode and is due to go on sale in the spring.

Use of similar products, he said, could reduce a family’s electricity bill by 40%. Calculated on the grander scale of a multi-national company, the savings could run into millions.

The environmental pressure group Greenpeace was on hand to provide a healthy degree of skepticism about the industry’s claims.

"We’re here to cut through the corporate green speak and find out how much is real, and how much is just PR," said Omer Einaiem, Greenpeace International media relations specialist.

The organization is using its presence at CeBIT to stress its appeal to the industry to eliminate toxic chemicals, boost energy efficiency, and improve ’ life cycles so that old machines do not so readily land in unregulated and hazardous "recycling yards" in developing countries.

Today it will use the fair to present a list of the most IT products on the market.

A ?asus bamboo pc, asus bamboo laptop

The laptop launched at the Hanover computer fair earlier this year, with a laminated bamboo casing around a pretty conventional computer won’t make a dent in the rising tide of plastics sold around the world. But it was a little demonstration of what can be done, and, if proof of bamboo’s versatility were required, consider it proven.

Bamboo is surely the only plant providing sources of food, building materials, and woven fabrics. One of Edison’s early light bulbs had a carbonized bamboo filament. Its strength, resilience, and cheapness make it a widely used scaffolding material throughout Asia. The fibers of bamboo poles have high strength both in tension and compression. Its compressive strength is roughly twice that of concrete and bamboo has roughly the same tensile strength to weight ratio as steel. And now there’s a bamboo laptop!

Bamboo ticks lots of boxes for anyone buying eco-friendly items for the home. For a start, it’s a highly sustainable raw material. Some species of bamboo grow at more than a meter every day. Local people can cut down as much as they need for carving, weaving, sawing, or splitting and still have as big a forest at the end of the year as they had at the start. On the global warming question, since it comes from a plant source, any bamboo product contains a significant part of its weight in atmospheric carbon. Any plastic equivalent has added to the atmosphere’s carbon level!

asus green laptop, environmentally friendly computerAnother point; because it’s natural, bamboo has variations in quality and appearance that make it difficult to use in most mass production processes. You can be pretty sure that a craftsman has produced any bamboo item you buy. If you go to a reputable source you’ll also know that the craftsman got a fair wage for his or her work, and that no one was exploited by western buying power. Finally you’ll be sure that the product you buy hasn’t accumulated air miles in its journey from craftsman to your home.

With eco-credentials as strong as these it’s amazing that bamboo products can also be very beautiful. Picture a skilfully made bamboo box, lovingly lacquered with 15 layers of natural shellac. All natural, and really lovely.
